Southern Kenya: Wildlife Experiences full of soul:Unique Selling Points
Unique Selling Points
The clearest and most persuasive selling point in this region is the Big Five, as tourists here are very likely to see all or most of these animals—lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros—while visiting any or all of these parks.
How to get there:
- Air: There are numerous airstrips within the parks, reserves, and conservancies in this region that allow travelers to connect from Nairobi daily.
- Road: The road network to the different attractions in the Southern Circuit is in very good condition. The Nairobi–Maasai Mara road is also complete, which has greatly enhanced the road trip experience to the Mara with a reduced time of about 4 hours.
- Rail: The Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) connects the port of Mombasa to Nairobi.
Attractions
The attractions in this region include the Maasai Mara, Amboseli, Chyulu Hills, Tsavo East, and Tsavo West, as well as conservancies and Mt. Kilimanjaro. These game parks are the most visited parts of Kenya, and the country’s archetypal image for good reason. Their seasonal movements, especially in the Maasai Mara’s wildebeest migration, are the dominant draw in any tourist’s visit to Kenya.
Activities
Going on safari and all that is associated with it are the ideal activities in these nine national parks. The wildebeest migration is, of course, the most thrilling experience on safari in Kenya, and if your clients can time their safari during the migration season, they should. Often called the “Greatest Show on Earth,” safari-goers who’ve seen it will never forget it. So, tell clients to bring their best camera and binoculars and prepare for the thrill of a lifetime!
Experiences
Iconic wildlife safaris on game drives, birding, cycling in the Mara, balloon safaris, nature walks, heli-tours, eco-tourism, bush breakfasts and dinners, epic sundowners, cultural experiences, destination weddings, and scientific tours among others.
Southern Kenya: Wildlife Experiences full of soul:Introduction to Southern Kenya
Introduction to Southern Kenya
Southern Kenya offers great opportunities to experience Kenya’s wild side with popular parks and reserves dotting the area. The annual wildebeest migration in Maasai Mara game reserve, the 8th wonder of the world, can be explored on foot, by hot air balloon, and in vehicles.
About Southern Kenya
Towards the east lies the salt lake of Magadi and along its shores, the archaeological treasures of Olorgesailie. In addition to the Mara, there’s the Amboseli National Park, known as the Kilimanjaro royal courtyard, with large herds of elephants up close.
Amboseli is famous for its big game and its great scenic beauty, and the landscape is dominated by the towering Mount Kilimanjaro. Additionally, there are the Tsavo East and West National Parks, a wilderness the size of Jamaica along Mombasa road that can be visited en route to the Kenya Coast.
Popular Parks
This region includes the country’s most popular game parks: Maasai Mara, Amboseli, Chyulu Hills, Tsavo East, and Tsavo West. The landscape here is mainly savannah with low trees and shrubs, and is at a lower elevation with often-irregular rainfall. Animals—including the Big Five: lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros—rule the roost in the 9,200 sq. miles covered by these nine national parks, which provide an exceptional (if not life-changing) safari experience. These are the most visited parts of Kenya, to which millions of international tourists flock every year.
